Legal ways to move abroad, from each government's own page

Many people lose their savings to fake agents and fake job offers. These are the routes governments run themselves. Each one links to the official page. The fees and the money you must show are copied from that page, with the date we read it. You apply yourself. You never need an agent.

Never pay an agent

Every route below is applied for on the government's own website. Fees go to the government only. Anyone who asks you to pay them for a visa, a job offer or a lottery win is not to be trusted. Check a message or offer.

Showing all 94 routes in 38 countries. 3 of these are closed now and listed at the end, so you know not to pay anyone for them.

What each kind of route means

Papers to get ready

Most routes ask for these. Start early, because some take weeks.

1. Have your degree or diploma checked

Many routes ask for proof that your African qualification matches theirs.

  • For Canada: an Educational Credential Assessment from a body Canada designates, such as World Education Services (WES). You pay the body directly.
  • For Germany: check whether your university is listed as H+ on anabin.kmk.org, or ask the ZAB for a Statement of Comparability. You pay the ZAB directly.
  • Ask your university registrar to send transcripts. Do not use a middleman.

2. Take the language test the route names

Each route card below names the test level its official page asks for.

  • English: IELTS General Training or CELPIP for Canada. IELTS for UKVI or another approved test for the UK.
